About the AMS 700 CX
The AMS 700 CX is a three-piece inflatable penile implant made by Boston Scientific. It is one of the most implanted penile prostheses in the world and has decades of clinical use behind it. The "CX" stands for controlled expansion: the cylinders expand in girth (width) when inflated, giving a firm, stable erection.
How it works
Like every three-piece implant, it has two cylinders inside the penis, a pump in the scrotum, and a fluid reservoir placed behind the abdominal wall. Squeezing the scrotal pump moves saline from the reservoir into the cylinders to create an erection. A deflation button returns the fluid to the reservoir so the penis goes soft again. Once healed, the whole device is hidden and you control it yourself.
What makes it distinctive
The cylinders carry InhibiZone, an antibiotic surface treatment (rifampin and minocycline) that studies link to a lower risk of device infection — the main complication surgeons guard against. The MS pump is designed so the implant can be deflated with one hand.
Things to weigh
The CX expands mainly in girth, so it does not lengthen the penis on inflation the way the LGX model does. As a three-piece device it is the most complex implant type, with more parts that can, rarely, fail — although modern survival rates are high.
