Hyaluronic Acid Penile Filler
Hyaluronic acid (HA) penile filler is a minimally invasive penile girth enhancement technique in which a biodegradable gel is injected beneath the penile skin to increase shaft circumference. Published studies report measurable increases in girth and generally high short-term satisfaction, but results are temporary, vary by product and technique, and the long-term evidence remains limited.
- +Minimally invasive : Requires injections rather than open girth-enhancement surgery.
- +Immediate volume increase An increase : in shaft circumference is visible immediately after injection, although early swelling means the final settled appearance cannot be judged immediately.
- +Biodegradable material : HA gradually breaks down rather than remaining permanently within the penis.
- +No permanent penile implant : The technique does not require insertion of a permanent girth implant or surgical graft.
- +Shorter recovery than invasive surgery :There are no large surgical incisions or graft donor sites, although temporary swelling and discomfort are expected.
- +Adjustable treatment volume :The amount and distribution of filler can be tailored to penile anatomy and the desired degree of augmentation.
- +Published evidence of girth increase : Clinical studies have demonstrated measurable increases in circumference, with the EAU review reporting approximately 1.4–3.78 cm across published HA studies.
- +High satisfaction reported in studies : The EAU reports satisfaction rates of 78–100% in the reviewed HA literature, although these figures come from relatively limited studies and should not be interpreted as guaranteed individual satisfaction.
- −Results are temporary : HA is gradually degraded, so some of the added circumference decreases with time.
- −Repeat treatment may be required : Maintaining the desired circumference may involve future injections, increasing cumulative cost and exposure to procedural risks.
- −Swelling and bruising : Temporary swelling, tenderness, bruising and discomfort can occur after injection.
- −Contour irregularities or asymmetry : Uneven filler distribution can produce visible or palpable irregularities.
- −Nodules or filler accumulation : Localized collections or palpable areas of filler may develop and can occasionally require correction.
- −Risk of infection : Any procedure that penetrates the skin introduces an infection risk.
- −Results vary between patients : The final increase depends on anatomy, injection volume, filler characteristics and technique.
- −Does not reliably increase penile length : The technique primarily increases circumference and should not be marketed as a penile-lengthening procedure.
- −Does not treat erectile dysfunction : Adding soft-tissue volume does not correct the physiological causes of ED.
- −Limited long-term evidence : Published research remains relatively small compared with established urological treatments, and sexual-medicine societies continue to call for higher-quality long-term studies.
